PullLists Untethered!!!
Saturday, August 21, 2010 at 9:22AM development and testing are complete in this next exciting step for the PullLists app. The application has been updated for iOS4 and is incorporating a whole slew of new and exciting features.
One of the most exciting features that was made possible with the introduction of iOS4 was the ability to send files directly to an app via iTunes sync. With this available, the majority of the complaints i've heard from users would be fixed. While there is a desktop client app available that enables current users to easily transfer comics from their desktop/laptop to their mobile devices… due to development issues, I have only been able to successfully support a Mac version of this client leaving the PC users to have to deal with an FTP workaround.
Now this is no longer an issue! after installing PullLists onto your mobile device, you will notice the new PullLists app under the File Sharing section of your devices apps tab in iTunes. All you do is drag and drop your comics files into this section and they get sync'd to the app! Does it get any simpler?
The next new feature is a coverflow-like interface for browsing thru the comics on your device. When you turn your device to landscape orientation, the familiar table-like view disappears and is replaced with a view of the covers for each comic on your device, which you can quickly swipe thru to find a particular issue.
Another annoyance that users have had to deal with is the fact that PullLists has only natively supported cbz(zip) files. This has been entirely due to the fact that iOS has no native support for rar archives, or cbr files. So I had to offer a conversion tool for the Mac and PC to convert these cbr or rar files into cbz's. With this update I've added the ability for PullLists to handle these cbr files directly on the device itself! No more converting files before sending them to the app! Between this and the new capability to send files to your phone via iTunes, PullLists is now a completely stand-alone app!! No need for any other support applications!! (aside from iTunes of course).
What could make this even better? No more need for a desktop client, no more file converting… how about no more need to pay for it? Yeah, that would probably be nice. Ok, PullLists is now a free app!
All of this will be available to you when it makes it thru the App Store approval process, I'll update here again when it is available.
Oh yeah and One More Thing (heh), an iPad specific version is also awaiting approval at the app store!
